Yam TT250R Vs TTR250

Just interested in any information, or views, on the relative merits of these bikes: one from the 1990s and the other the successor bike for this decade.

I've never owned or ridden either of them, so I would prefer to hear from those who know the bikes - I don't mind opinions from your granny twice removed who got on one years ago, but please make that clear.

Thanks

ps Yes, it's a "which bike?" type of question, but single make so it's here.

I've a TT250R from 1994. Its a cousin of the 'enduro' TTR250, with a big headlight, big tank, comfy seat and a 480 chain instead of a 520. It's a kind of a desert racer. Haven't put enough miles on it to get the know the bike yet, but I like it so far.

Finish is utterly appalling, but it's easy to work on. The engine is very similar to the Serow engine.

Everything you need to know is at YAMAHA TTR250 TRAIL and OFFROAD MOTORCYCLE FAQ

Thanks for the info Ned. I guess you have the "raid" version which has a bigger tank as standard.

I have seen that link before and it does have a lot of good data.
If there is any more firsthand information about ownership, I am still reading and learning. :rolleyes2:

One of the mature students i do maths with use to own one when he was a poor student like me and said it was the best bike he ever bought. If did all his own work on it, he even bored out the carb restrictor tube in it, then just replaced the carb, and mess with it. He never broke it and said if he could he would still have it but sold it ages ago. He goes on and on about the power that came out of it, being able to burn people off the lights, and handled pretty good off road too.

i think he misses it too much. But he has an old TZR250 in his garage he said he needs to sort out first.
