xtz660 regulator rectifier

ANY HELP APPRECIATED!!

Hi, the reg/rec units gone on my bike, and is producing no charge at all. The unit has 4 connections (3 white, 1 red) and the black wire from the loom was just earthed to the frame. I take it this isn't the right unit for the bike? The unit is un-finned and was mounted via an ally plate which looks to be home made.

The previous owner gave me a load of spares including a a reg/rec unit with 6 wires (3 white, 1 red, 1 black, 1 brown). So i've tried it, neglecting the brown wire (since there's no wire from the loom for that one) and i'm getting a charge but it rises to 18v at 5,000 revs so its obviously not right. Can anyone tell me anything to help? Should there be a brown wire from the loom or do i just need to buy another reg/rec unit which i assume will have 5 connections and not the brown one.

Have a look at this website, under elektrik.
Die Yamaha XTZ 660 Tenere Seite
It has a very good explanation of the regulator-rectifier and the wire connections and about everything on the xtz660. Only its in German.
For as far as I understand the brown wire should be connected to the ignition coil, to the positive connection. But my German is not that good, so I am not sure about this. There is no brown wire in the loom if it was not made for this specific 6 wire regulator-rectifier.
Best is to write a note with your question, under "feedback" of this site, there is a possibility to react.
