XT660 - fuel tolerance (and big tanks)

Hi - I fancy an XT660R as my next adventure bike, but I'm wondering (being fuel injected) as to how it might cope with poor fuel - or leaded.

Also, does anyone know if you can get a 'big' tank yet for this model?

thanks - Andy

It's not the fuel injection that determines fuel (in)tolerance, it's down to whether it's got a Catalytic Convertor fitted and ignition timing etc.

The Cat will die if you use leaded fuels.

If the 660 has a high compression ratio, you'll need reasonable fuel.

Contact Yamaha & ask their opinion.

Not heard of a big tank being available for the 660?

Actually there is an aftermarket 28 ltrs capacity fuel tank available for the XT660R

Doesn't look half bad with the larger tank fitted either.

BTW: This German company has a lot of special parts for the XT660R/X, from centre stand and skidplates to luggage systems and exhaust pipes. At least everything an overlander would like to have on his/her XT660.

Hi Guys - thanks for the help. I've chickened out of getting a cat-equipped, injected modern thing and have opted to go for a TT600RE instead. Pick it up this afternoon - can't wait!

Cheers.
