XT600Z Tenere rim width?

Hi. I am getting a rear wheel built for my XT600Z 1987 1VJ. It's an Italian import Tenere. How wide should the rear rim be? Talon, a wheel builder and Excel supplier in Somerset, didn't know. Damerell, a Yamaha parts supplier in Cornwall, told me 2.5". Is that right?

And ... can anyone say which are better rims: Excel, DID, Akront/Morad?

Thanks.

The original rear rim is 2.50 x 18 (aluminum).

Hi Gelder

I trashed the original rear wheel on my XT600E and have been running an 18" x 2.5 DID. rim on the original hub for about 2 years. The bike is used for trailriding, trials and enduro tracks and gets lots of abuse - I haven't even needed to tighten the spokes! so the DID rims are good and at the time was usefully cheaper than an Excel...

Thanks, Geoff and Bish. I'm getting a DID rim from Dave Clarke Racing for £60, which is a lot cheaper than the OE I was quoted for and cheaper than an Excel, too.

Hi Graham,

Looks like a good find. Fyi, my (standard) OEM wheels are DID manufactured - in silver alloy on a 3AJ.

I always thought the 1VJ must also have DID as standard, but in the (great looking) gold colouring?

Geoff
