xt600z choke cable needed
 

hi was wondering if anyone can help me source a choke cable for an xt600z 3aj 89 model,cant find one anywhere and my local yam dealer said the part has been discontinued,the cable comes in two parts,its the short piece i need from the junction box to the carb,many thank,peter

Skip the cable version and install 2KF-14371-01, this is the version you pull directly at the carburetor. It will give you lot less problem than the cable version.

Maybe Yamaha have now run out, but I've bought 2 of the short cables over the last couple of years for 2 1VJs I've worked on through the parts dept at Fowlers in Bristol. That said, I agree that a choke direct on the carb is not a bad idea: the cable seems to collect moisture and either stick on or rot through on the bend at the carb end.

Guys, I thought I'd simplify the choke set up on my 1VJ Tenere as suggested in this thread and fit the later push-pull type. I ordered the assembly from the States as it was a lot cheaper than the £70+ Yamaha dealers in UK wanted.
The issue I have is that the plunger looks very different, with a central pin, and no o-ring round the plunger. I've fitted it, and it seems to go in ok, and start the bike fine from cold. However, I don't think it's closing properly, so once warm the bike is flooding. Have I missed something here when assembling -it seemed to be just a straight swap...

Hi Guzzibob,

I think you will find that the 2kf choke assembly will not work correctly. Certainly not in a 34L style carburettor.
(Don't know the 1vj. Have the 34l in pieces and taken the choke out of the 2kf to compare)
The pin extension at the inner end of the 2kf type bottoms in the early body and the choke effectively remains on as you suggest.
If examined, one can see that the sealing is done by a rubber 'face' on the 1vj part, to the carb body. There is a small hole in the body, not deep enough for the later type choke ass.
The 2kf part, the 'pin' prevents the mating of these surfaces.
Shortening the 'pin' will most likley work, as its significance will be in the later body.

Hi, how about the 3tb engines, have they the same carbsetup as the 2kf.
