XT600's on GUMTREE!

I often look on Gumtree at the Yamaha XT600's being sold.

I came across two today worth mentioning here -

YAMAHA XT600 TENERE CLASSIC BIKE 1986 GREAT CONDITION in Chester, Cheshire | Motorbikes & Scooters for Sale | Gumtree.com

Yamaha XT600 E BMW XR DRZ Trail Adventure Bike Electric Start Taxed and Tested Prestine Condition in L'derry, County Londonderry | Motorbikes & Scooters for Sale | Gumtree.com

The first one looks interesting although in my opinion it isn't worth anywhere near what is being asked. This price would be fair for a real minter but for one like this I think £1,200 is absolute tops. I realise these models are getting rare and that prices are on the up but £2,000?????

I have seen the same model in true mint condition (and low mileage) being sold for less than £2,000.

As for the other (a mint XT600E), £2,300 is utterly ludicrous! Both my bikes are low mileage minters and in my opinion worth £1,600 tops. :( I might let my bikes go for a bit less if I could find a really good home (where they get polished more than ridden).

It's now possible to find Yamaha XT660's for just over £2,000 now.

I thought these links might be of interest to those of you out there (in the UK) who are looking for a bike.

Gumtree is an excellent online resource but be aware that some people are being plain GREEDY. :nono:

Lastly, it's a buyers market at the moment so play hard ball - don't pay any more than you need to. It's often a good idea to make a fair offer and give the seller your contact details. This tactic has served me well in the past, after walking away I have had a phone call within 5 minutes accepting my offer.

It never ceases to amaze me the amount of private sellers asking retail shop prices for their bike! A private bike should be sold for about one third less than a shop sold bike (this represents the shops profit). Also factor in that when buying from a commercial seller you have much better consumer protection (Sales of Goods Act 1979 etc). A private buy is risky but it should be possible to obtain a true BARGAIN here.

I may use this thread to update on new XT's appearing on Gumtree. :innocent:

Gumtree prices are normally higher, its free so guys are in no rush & are normally holding out for the best price.

On the other hand is ebay, and guys selling on there want to sell at whatever it makes.

This a good buy i think if your in the market for a collectable classic, not many 55W`s are in the UK, only made in 1985 & would make a good restoration project & a good investment.

Karl (member on here) has just finished his 55W resto project & it came out beautiful.

And yes its a 34L tank in the picture, he`s got a 55 tank being done, thats an easy way to tell the difference between a 34L & 55W (the tank graphics slant backwards) and it has the longer double seat unlike the 34L`s that had the little stubby one.

How about that for "off topic" Neil. :blushing:

Interesting! I wonder if second hand prices are being shunted up my the absolutely monstrous prices dealers are asking for new adventure bikes these days?

Worth bearing in mind that folk on Gumtree jack the price up because they know we'll haggle them down. Might as well start higher so you can end up selling for an acceptable figure once all the tyre-kickings done

Like the guy who couldn't afford a personalised number plate, so changed his name by deed poll to A123ABC (or whatever). Supposedly a true story.

This one's taking the mick -

Yamaha XT600 E Trail Adventure Bike Electric Start Taxed and Tested Prestine Condition in L'derry Area, County Londonderry | Motorbikes & Scooters for Sale | Gumtree.com :eek3: :eek3:

Are these things now so rare that prices have increased lately? Surely not.

Some people are just so damn greedy!

In my humble opinion a figure of around £1,800 is absolute tops for one of these late models. A bargain price (mates price) would be £1,600 tops (in my humble opinion).

Perhaps I should put mine up for sale? - £2,300 each, both low milage and the 1999 model is pristine like new.

As I said before in this thread it's now possible to find early XT660's for £2,000. Why would you pay these ultra inflated prices for a older less powerful XT600E?

Get off my soap box now. :innocent:
