Xt600e with new Raptor carb's

Good day to you all, I hope my first message finds you all well and I thank you for allowing me on your site.
Here we go.
Yamaha Xt600e 3tb 1998 stolen recovered. Done loads of work to this machine and since the first day of repairs always had starting problems from cold.
Looking across many forums I found upgrade to "Raptor" carbs so a Brand New set installed.
When the old carb's were in use I always had concern as the exhaust's from head glowed, even after loosening tappets the same.
Compression test done today 125ish p.s.i.
I have made adaptions for the new carb's and on first test felt superbly confident as it started first push of button. However will not rev smoothly and Oh! the exhausts glowing like a forge.
I wonder if any Genius could assist me in the problem of easy access to mixture screws. I have exceptionally large hands and trying to push a small screw driver or bit in the apertures seems impossible.I have removed the carb's once again but guessing the mixture seems ridiculous as I prefer to set whilst engine running to get the optimal setting. Can anyone suggest a way to adjust with ease Please!
Thanking you in anticipation.

This sounds like it's running extremely lean - perhaps an intake boot leak? Sometimes the rubber boots crack, and without a VERY careful inspection you can't see it.
Also if it has a vacuum petcock, the hose to it could be leaking air as well.
