1987 2KF rear caliper.

Hi all. Newbie with a brake question. Is the rear brake caliper on a 1987 2KF the same as a 1990 600E ??

Just ripped my newly aquired piece of flotsam apart to find severe but repairable rot in the caliper carrier, knackered pads and a very rusty piston sans seals. Looks like it's overhaul time.

I love projects.

XT rear caliper

According to Boat.net the caliper for XT 1990 - 1995 is 3TB 2580 00 00.

Available new genuine $195.30.
Piston and seals appear to be the same as 2KF.

2KF caliper is listed as 2KF 2581 50

Would help everyone if you filled out your profile (where you are) ?

Theres a kit on ebay here that may fit? if not ask the seller if he has the right one for you.

The caliper housing comes up good with a rotary wire brush, or sandblast & paint.

Mine were very grotty, few hours of work & they came up like new.

And Geoff did even better with his ones, from this.

To this,,,

How much?

Don't be wasting your hard earned dough on new calipers, a days work with a bench grinder with one of the big ass rotary wire wheels & some silver paint & good as new (a pair of them).

Geoff saw my restoration & thought he would take up the challenge, so who out there has a set more ugly than Geoff`s calipers then?

Mezo.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
