XT600E Are New Zealand engine model codes different than UK/Europe?

Being new to the HUBB & in the market for a XT600E, I've read many threads here which I've found to be very informative & much appreciated, so thanks to you all.
After reading of the gearbox 5th gear problems I thought that would be something to avoid.
Some input on a earlier thread by Dave Lambeth stated the '97 onward models (4PT2/3/4) had the DJ02 engine code I believe, which have the clutch cable entering the engine on the R/h side(as opposed to the L/h side), & had the better gearbox than previous models.
I've recently viewed a '98 model with the cable entering on the L/h side & engine & frame code being 3WR...
Also viewed a '03 model with the cable entering on the L/h side & engine & frame code being 3WR...
Also viewed a '02 model with the cable entering on the L/h side & unsure of the codes.
They obviously haven't had engine swaps because the 3WR engine codes are the same as the frame number prefix.
So I'm now wondering if downunder here in New Zealand we have different model engines/gearboxes than in UK & Europe??
Does anyone know from what year the NZ models had the later engine/gearbox with the clutch cable entering on the R/h side??
Does anyone know if the 3WR engine/gearbox had the 5th gear wear problem??.
.
Thanks in advance for your advice.:thumbup1:

I've never seen an XT600 with the clutch cable on the right side of the engine - mind you I didn't know such a thing existed so haven't exactly looked for it.Kick and electric are a little different as the electric start clutch cable has to go around the starter. But both cables are on the left.

Too add to the confusion

I have a 3TB numbered engine(frame no unknow), but has the clutch entry on the right, as for a 4pt engine, so 97 or so.

Iv looked through my microfiche of the 96 3wr(clutch on left) and 01 4ptb(clutch on right) xt600e and can find no difference in gearing teeth numbers and both have the external oil feed to 5th gear... That said iv also heard models with the clutch entry on the right are the best gearbox wise.

Maybe someone can clarify exactly what makes the gearbox better?

Maybe you will not find exactly the info u search but this is a good resource.

Thanks guys for your replies.
It appears that here in NZ we were never fortunate enough to get the DJ02 4PT XT600E, which by the way has a better gearbox than the previous models (no 5th gear problems, says Dave Lambeth).
The good news is that I've found one here & bought it(a 2001 4PT 2nd/h Jap import). Problem solved !!
