XT600e into kicker loom???
 

Is it possible to mate these two together???
I'm at the end of my tether!!!

I'm not bothered about the starter - I just want to get it running.
Are the CDI's different???

Sorry mate, XT600E has TCI ignition unit, coil is different stator also.

Probably the only part common with XT600K (CDI-lower resistance coil-stator has wire to supply currento to CDI directly) is regulator\rectifier.

I've just spent a heap of time and money on an engine I can't use:mad2:

I thought I was onto a winner - the engine has a Carrillo rod, high compression piston and a ported/polished head.

Only thing I can do now is put another kicker engine back in - using the piston and head from the other engine.

Anybody want a gearbox with a Carrillo rod???

If you have a kick model, you need to replace

1)wires, relais included
2)ignition unit TCI
3)ignition coil
4)right hand commands
5)regulator\rectifier if different

and you will get a nice and comfortable electric starter, and some items for ebay :D

OR

take out the kick lever and wheels, and decompressor
take out stator and rotor from a kick engine (gray carter gerbox preferably)
and put all on your new Carrillo gearbox.

and you will have a kick engine with all the goodies...

keep the stator, rotor, and starter engine for the future, or sell them...

I have an '88 kickstart engine in my '92.I used the CDI from the donor bike,so it just plugs into the engine loom.....the key doesn't kill the engine so I use a kill switch.Same with the alt - I used an after market 3 wire regulator and just hooked it into the original red output wire to the battery.I've been running this set up for 18 months without a problem.All the original electric start and 3 phase alt,and original CDI wiring is untouched,so when I refit my E start engine it will be just plug and go.

Hi man. I had a similar situation - also went in blind! - when i got my XT600E engine to put in my '86 SRX4. The SRX4 is essentially the same engine as early XTs.

The good news is it is possible! However, at least in my case, there where a couple of hurdles to cross.
Conversion of two phase electrics to 3 phase - not that hard.
kill switch functions differently - old XT has a negative signal to CDI to cut the spark, while 'new' XT kills via cutting the positive feed to the CDI.
Your gonna need to mount the starter relay and wire it in, and while your at it avoid the 'safety' switches (Clutch, sidestand, neutral)
The pickup coil is incorporated into the magneto in early models not so in later models but easily rerouted.
Also CDI is very different.
Probably others Iv missed...

An autoelectrician did mine without any bike specific knowledge so with patience and relevant wiring diagrams definately possible, although you may have redundant wiring left behind...

Im currently trying to re-incorporate my kill swich, problem is will be reversed, ie kill will allow the engine to run while run will kill the engine if you see what i mean

Motu we are telling the same things basically..:thumbup1: you made the opposite adapting a "K" engine on a "E" bike, changed ignition unit with engine, this is necessary, and regulator\rectifier. Ignition coil can work, (or not) but TCI and CDI have different coils, risking your ignition unit using the wrong coil is not best thing to do, considering that coil is the cheapest part.

Wires are always wires, you can probably adapt them, but sometimes is easier get a complete loom than spend hours to figure out how to add missing parts like the starter relais, starter button and so on (I agree that if you already have them you can temporarily not use them).
