Valve Clearance hurdles

Hi,

I'm trying to work out how to adjust my valve clearances (3aj) but I'm falling at the first hurdle.

The manual is talking about removing the little plastic circle on the left hand side engine cover with a screw driver so you can turn the engine to TDC with a 19mm socket. Is there a technique for doing this, because I just keep slipping out of the screw slot damaging it.

Cheers,

Taco

The screw driver is not the best for removing this plug. Its best to make up a tool from a peice of flat metal stock same width as slot, rounded on a grinder to fit. Use a adjustable wrench to turn while pressing the tool into the slot. A large flat washer will also do the job with a little work on the grinder.

turning the screw

HI, I have always used two large flat blade screwdrivers crossed. If that makes sense. and make sure you give it a good few taps with a small hammer before you try.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
