xt600e chain roller base
Hello mates,
As you can see in the picture attached I have circled the chain roller and its base.Well ... my bike has no chain roller because base has been cut off for some reason. -Any ideas on how to put a chain roller over there ? -Does the lack of a chain roller mean that my chain's life is shortened? Thanks in advance |

the lower chain roller fits to the plate just above the side stand.
if that piece is missing there is something strange going on with your bike. the roller is in place for when you back off the throttle and the chain slackens at the bottom causing backlash the roller stops the chain hitting the bottom rail which runs across the frame without that roller it will damage the frame and the chain too.

My 2001 XT600 has a long shanked bolt for mounting the lower chain roller, & a threaded pipe welded to the frame for mounting the upper chain roller.
All looks original, so I reckon the pics in the parts catalogue(same pics I have) are switched between upper & lower roller assemblies. The lower shanked bolt(pictured as the upper bolt) screws in to the frame just above the side stand, so maybe yours has fallen out or broken off? Bob

its been broken
maybe I should weld a piece of metal and just add the bolt with the roller... |

without that roller the chain will slap against a piece of steel webing that braces the bottom of the frame, mine had the wrong size roller fitted and had worn a groove in that web.

it probably wont wear out the chain completely but it may damage the odd link or two if it weakens a side plate the chain can fail believe me snapping a chain is no fun.

Yea, I have lost my lower chain roller as well. Must have vibrated undone. MX bikes have nice looking and coloured polyurethane rollers for £5 or so.
In the meantime I re-fitted my chain tensioner.
