Xt600e cdi

I will at long last be buying a new CDI for my 1990 XT600. I have realised that this type of CDI is a plug in type not wired connecters, Which plug in connector is the one I need to connect my coil and which one is the earth:(

Yes, you are right TCI not CDI but I still need to know which is the correct plug in to connect a new wire into to the coil and which is the earth wire to the frame. I bought the bike with no CDI (TCI) and no wiring harness as the bike was already stripped down to be used as a field bike. I just want basic wiring, no sidestand warning or anything fancy. Just press the starter button and go! If you can offer any help I would be grateful.beerCHEERS!

to get the correct ignition unit, consider that there are different models from xt 1990

2KF model only kick

3TB model kick
3TB electric start

The first three letters are in your model number printed on frame, and these letter should be the same first three in your engine number (right side under exhaust).

3TB Kick has CDI unit, 3TB elestart has TCI. So if your bike has the kick is probably the first one, if NOT the second. If has both, please post here, will try to help you further.
Getting the service manual from your model (3TB is in first post of this section) you will find the wiring diagram fro your bike, with all wire colors. As a general rule, ignition unit, coil, stator go together and you cannot mix them from different model. I mean, maybe you can use a coil from cdi model in another cdi (43F-2KF) but you cannot use a cdi coil on a TCI model, it could eventually start but would probably fry your ignition unit in a short term.

Sorry for being so long, but having a bike of unknown origin means that it could have been already mixed up by previous owners.

Xt600e tci

I have now bought a TCI for my 1990 XT600E. Now for the problem, this TCI unit has an electrical box plug in, not individual wires!Out of the two connectors (each one has 4 small electrical connectors) which is the correct one to connect to the coil, and if any which one is the earth? I hope someone can help me:(

Tci wiring

Yippee! If you send me a wiring diagram for MY FIELD BIKE, I will need to know which terminal in which square socket to connect to where. I know nothing re. bike wiring. :oops2:I look forward to your reply. PS I have no wiring harness at all just single wires .:innocent:

here you go

i think this is going to be slightly easier to use... ;)

dont forget that you need to switch the +12V to the CDI AND the coil (I do it throught the kill switch), otherwise it will empty your battery.

enjoy

Wiring diagram

Thanks for the wiring diagram, nice and simple for me to follow. So I thought!! On my key switch I have not got a Green or Blue wire that you say to connect to. On my switch the colours are Red, Blue, Black/white, Black, Brown and Blue/red. Any ideas please, :confused1:

Xt600 wiring

Thanks for even more info re. my XT600E. The engine number on my bike is 009890 The TCI Unit that I bought on Ebay recently is a 4PT. I found a website saying that various units are compatible with my bike engine, that is why I have this unit. Also the 6 wired ignition key lock was given to me brand new by the bikes previous owner, so the ignition and the TCI Unit should all fit together............... now it's back over to you to send me the wiring instructions, the final piece of the puzzle!!!!:mchappy:Here's hoping.

where i wrote °pick up° it means the two wires that come from the sensor next to the flywheel! the sensor that picks up the timing signal. thats why that sensor is often called "pick up" :)

The frame no. of my XT600E bike is 43F 002684. The previous owner then decided to put a different engine in. This engine no. is3TB 009890 Hope this will give you enough details to sort out a wiring diagram from ignition switch to TCI Unit.
