XT600E cam chain life?

Hi all,

I have done quite a thorough search, but couldn't find the answer to this question (although I'm sure it's in here somewhere)

My bike is an XT600E 1992. I acquired it recently, with 42000 miles showing.

In the original manual that comes with it, and on the web, I can't find any reference to cam chain life - and at 40,000 miles I'm conscious that this is a job that may need doing soon.

Please, does anyone know the recommended replacement mileage for this?

Also, while I'm on, all I see on the web suggests that there's no interim maintenance required to the cam chain tensioner - is this correct?

Thanks in anticipation,

Paul G

Im at 101.500km on stock camchain (and evry other thing engine wise). The tensioner is only albout half way in.

Thanks Jens - how do you measure the tensioner depth?

Took it out and meassured it, really simple :D Dont know if it realy tells you anything solid about the remaining life of the chain, but I reckon its a good hint.

I changed mine at 50000 km but was not necessary, I put another 50 000 km and this one and it looks perfectly fine.

So I'll probably 120/ 130 ? like most car as a precaution.

There is no periodicity, only tensioner checking...
