XT600E cam chain life?

Hi all,

I have done quite a thorough search, but couldn't find the answer to this question (although I'm sure it's in here somewhere)

My bike is an XT600E 1992. I acquired it recently, with 42000 miles showing.

In the original manual that comes with it, and on the web, I can't find any reference to cam chain life - and at 40,000 miles I'm conscious that this is a job that may need doing soon.

Please, does anyone know the recommended replacement mileage for this?

Also, while I'm on, all I see on the web suggests that there's no interim maintenance required to the cam chain tensioner - is this correct?

Thanks in anticipation,

Paul G

Thanks Jens - how do you measure the tensioner depth?

Took it out and meassured it, really simple Dont know if it realy tells you anything solid about the remaining life of the chain, but I reckon its a good hint.

I changed mine at 50000 km but was not necessary, I put another 50 000 km and this one and it looks perfectly fine.

So I'll probably 120/ 130 ? like most car as a precaution.

There is no periodicity, only tensioner checking...
