XT600E Air Scoop breaking

When I do a longish trip, combination tar and dirt, the air scoops attached to the tank, particularly the right, come adrift at the "welds". I'm not sure if it is rattling of the dirt roads at 80km/h or the vibration on the tar at 120. Neither the agents nor importers have a solution. Any suggestions?

The mystery deepens

C'mon guys! Surely mine can't be the only XT600e in the world that rattles or vibrates air scoops to pieces?

airscoops

they do break easily, they are put in the perfect place to get smashed. i actually melted one of mine(dont ask) and the local yamaha dealer wanted £68 each with a smug bastard grin on his face so i made new ones out of carbon fibre at work, purely for show and because i could.

they are not even proper airscoops because theres no radiator in there and the oil tank doesnt need any help, they are just for fancy and do nothing, so you can do without completely, or pull out the black polythene bits and just put the colour coded bit back on.

Mine vibrated the inner finned bit loose at the bottom. I just glued them and have had no problems since. Can't believe yamaha fitted thes things rather than making the tank bigger.
Got an Acerbis tank coming for mine. Just waiting for it to arrive from Italy.
Andy.

Same here. First the inner plastic broke into pieces because of vibrations and the road conditions in Finland Lapland, and later on in Island. After that the big plastic on the outside snapped in half. Glued it together, now it holds. But the new Acerbis tank should solve the unused valuable space :biggrin3:

At one day, a bird managed to fly against INTO the plastic that points forward. It was horrible to see. Parts of the bird hanging everywhere. Yak!

Yeah half the right one flew off on the A303 December last year then lost the left side one this week trailering it after getting some work done to get an MOT...Dealer says £54 for black replacements (each side) or £59 for the other colours, Touratech have the larger tank listed for £190, think I'm going to get that instead or make some temporary panels to cover the bottom half of the tank because it looks like it's been crashed or abandoned... (just some flat ones)
