XT600e 4PT carb set up

Hi all! Been tinkering around before my big trip. My mechanic advised I put my bike back as close to standard as possible. I was running a K&N filter, Dep silencer and Dyna Jet stage 2 kit. I've now put back the original needle, the snorkel and a Marving Pipe from Wemoto(not free flow) When I had the carbs off I noticed that the master carb and the secondary carb were almost set to move together, but when I first got the bike I noticed that they were set so that the second carb would open a little after the first, by means of a sort of rocker/cam thingie between the carbs. I sort of wound it out a bit (guessing ) and put it all back. The bike runs ok, but I'm not sure if its meant to be like this or I'm just noticing the difference from all the performance stuff I had on it. MY question is, is there a set gap to work to when setting the distance between the carbs opening sequence? I heard you could put a drill bit in the gap to size it?

Also, I'm gonna keep the K&N in for ease of service on the road. Should I keep the snorkel in, or take it out?
