xt600 tach

Hello, I just bought a 1990 XT600 in great shape.This is my first dualsport machine. Everything works fine but it has no tachometer. It only has an idiot light for overrev. Is there an easy way to retrofit a tach? I know some use a cable drive but do any use an electrical signal?

Same here... I also got a 1990 XT600E and I'm thinking of fitting a tach on it.. I have my yamaha 2002 DT125R meter thing somewhere in the garage with the cable but I want to know what parts I have to buy so I can actually put the tach running...

Have you put yours on?

Happy riding :thumbup1:

Bacardi23, I ended up getting a "TinyTach" .It uses a loop of wire around the sparkplug lead. It worked ok for a while then died. I no longer use it. I just go by feel.When my butt starts vibrating too much I shift:rockon: Now I don't feel it;s necessary.

Actually it ain't because of me that I want to put it on... it's because of my father... he always wanted to have a RPM thingy on a bike... I just want to know what parts I actually need to get to put it on... =) do any of you know?

Thanks =)

You could try something like a trailtech vapor which will replace the speedo as well as give you a tacho
