XT600 road legal off road tyres
Can somebody give me some advise, I would like to fit some off road tyres onto my XT600 for Green Laning in the UK but they must also be road legal. Can somebody advise a good pair - I currently looking at Metzler Karoo M/C TT 65R

Hi, you could try ED660/ED661's, they come in 2 different compounds (soft/hard) but I wouldn't like to say how long they'd last with the weight of an XT600.

P.S. It's amazing what you can erase from the side of a tyre with some sand paper!

I run Pirelli MT21's on my XT.
Thay are road legal here in Aus and in my opinion are a brilliant tyre.
I get about 5000kms out of a rear and a bit longer out of a front, with over 95% of that distance covered on the bitumen.

Continental Tkc 80. I think these tyres are the best duel purpose tyre, i have used. good on the road, havent tried them off road yet. saw some of the other threds liked what i saw and got a pair

The venerable Dunlop 606 family is a tried and tested combo on this bike. TKC 80s are good but quite expensive by comparison. You should almost buy two pairs of Dunlops vs one of the Continentals. Cheers

are you also doing lots of road miles on it or mainly using it for laning?

Because I go trail riding in far corners of the country, I ride fully loaded with camping gear, so go for a Mitas E07 on the rear (will get about 15000 miles from this) and a TKC80 on the front. I'd prefer an E09 on the rear for when the lanes are muddier..

Did the taffy dakar with this setup and didn't drop the bike once, just took it steady, some folks trailered their bikes over with really soft knobblies and were dropping like flies. Its like the fable of the hare and the tortoise.

Hi, I have an MT 21 on the front and D606 on the back. I found the MT21 rear wore rather quickly on my '86 XT600 loaded with camping gear.

tire threads are a bit like oil threads, everybody will have a well educated opinion, few of us will ever have the chance to ride on same terrain different tires back to back like magazines.

and how off is your off road? technically FIM enduro tires are DOT legal as bikes have number plates, so if you ride in very muddy conditions you can have a look here,

as long as i had it as an enduro i always had metzeler sahara on it... and on the first 6 months i rode it on the beach once a month! they lasted me 2.5 years on a normal use of the bike (daily drive to and back from work , about 10km )
