XT600 rear fender / plate holder mod

I'm a new owner of an XT600, and so far so good... BUT, every time I look at her from behind a little part of me dies inside. hah. The XT600 has a heinous anus with its huge extended rear mudguard / plate holder.

I've seen people talk about a UFO plate holder kit but have been struggling to find the exact product. If anyone have any tips/links to plate holders so I can tidy her up that would be great.

Aside from aesthetics, off road would save a lot of weight too. Picture all that extra surface area with an inch thick layer of gloopy mud... Better off roosting what ever is behind you. ha.

I have the the acerbis led unit, although not fit it yet. Hoping it tidy's up the arse end.

Acerbis Part Number: 0015941.090

I'd post pics but accessing the site from my phone so not sure how?!?!

Thanks Rick! That should do the trick. Looks like thats the exact one in the photo I posted. Not crazy pricey either.

I've been drooling over it a little bit now too... Would like to make a "lipo" on my XT's arse too, hehe :thumbup1:

So how does it fit? Can you guys post some pictures?

Cheers!
Tadas.

Hi Rick an update once you have it fitted would be great.

fraserbyrne 20 Sep 2012 10:19

I ordered one off ebay, will post pics when I get it fixed up. First thing that comes to mind is the number plate is going to be at 45 degrees. ha.

anotherrick 20 Sep 2012 23:07

Got a full rebuild on another bike going on at min, but will take pics when i do it.

I did notice the angle of the number plate too, its still readable if ya doing a wheelie lol.

I don't want to sound like the dissenting bore, here, but how can that eBay seller (listing the Acerbis taillight) claim "No changes to your bike should be required" when just about every road-bike has its rear reflector fixed into/onto the taillight-mudguard setup and this one gives no provision for one?

Having said that, I guess the XT reflector could hang beneath without looking too bodged.

I too would be interested in the implementation of this unit, Fraser and Rick. Like you, I was thinking about the feasibility of using this unit on the XT (but now I'm not so sure).

Am I alone here in actually quite liking the standard rear light and huge indicators on my 4PT? I must say that that does not extend to the mudguard, though, and have planned to chop off the excess length at some stage. The only complication is that blessed riveted reflector-mount (not insurmountable, though).

You could just get one of those little stick on reflectors and stick it on under the tail light for MOT purposes.

I too like the look of the arse end on the xt generally! For me, also, it is just the size of the mudguard. I also thought about cutting it down to improve (in my opinion) its aesthetic qualities!
