XT600 Oil Pressure?

I have recently imported an '86 Tenere into the UK for a trip to Africa this winter. I am currently determining exacty what needs doing to the bike prior to the trip. My first two steps when assessing a new bike are usually cylinder compression, and oil pressure checks. I have a clymer manual but can find no specs for oil pressure. Why is this? Anyone have any figures?

Ta, for the help.

as far as i remember there is a value somewhere in the clymers manual.
however, oil pressure is relatively low due to the construction of the engine (wheel bearings!).
yamaha has a special gauge to measure the pressure. it has to be connected to the oil filter housing air-bleeder screw.
instead, you can use a simple transparent plastic tube, at least 3 m long. connect it to the oil filter housing (air bleeder screw) with a special adapter. let the engine rev 4000 and watch the oil rising in the vertical fixed tube. it should rise at least 2 m.
or (and this is better in my opinion) dismount right engine cover and clutch assy. then dismount the pump. check it according to the manual (wear limits).
but the best is to mount the latest model of the pump. it has higher haul capacity. the identification code is 3AJ (every xt/tt 600 since 1989 is equipped with this pump). you need both the pump and the sprocket.

here is the desired value:

13 kPa (1,8 psi) @ 1300 rpm
measured in oil filter housing.

Sorry to bring this post tu life,
but is there any value above 1300 RPM ?

on 2000, 3000 and so on.

I've not seen any that I remember but generally if you have the proper pressure at idle it'll be ok for higher rpms . Either way I don't think there will be a whole lot of pressure increase for rpms(as auto's do) , I know KLR's only have 2.5-3.5psi up higher IIRC, when at 1.5-1.8 at idle. Check with warm oil.
