XT600 Fork Seals. does anyone know...

Does anyone know what size forks came on the 95 XT600 ? the forks on my 99 XT600E look to be 41mm, the 99 was never imported into Canada or North America and I've had success with ordering parts for the 95, like sprockets and brake pads, but I've had no luck finding specs or tests on the 95 to see what size fork it has, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

I can look for you tonight when I get home (approx 2100 GMT) if that would help. Mine's '95 600E.

Thanks BlackDogZulu that would be great.

Sorry, pursang - last night didn't go as planned! Will have a look later today (still at work).

As you thought, 41mm.

That's a '95 600E, UK spec. The XT600 was superseded by the E model here before '95, but I can't imagine them being any different - apart from the electric foot.

Pulled the forks apart today, here are some numbers.

On the oil seal.
KYB 58 - 13411 01507 73S 4153.

On the swiper above the oil seal.
KYB 39 - 41 - 53.7 - 5

These are the seals I ordered for a 1995 XT600E. Not exactly like the 99s but I think they'll work.

fork sizes

Hi there ,
Find somebody with a set of measuring calipers ,should have a set in any workshop .Also consider getting seals made by someone who repairs hydraulic rams the resulting seals are far stronger {can stand higher pressures and temperature than the originals.I even got fresh dust seals made at the same time .hope this helps .:scooter:

Thanks for the tip DickBackshall, I'll check that out next time I need seals.

As seen above the new seal for a 95 XT600 is 2mm taller. by omitting the large washer that sits below the seal the taller seal along with it's swiper will fit. I used the washer to install the upper bushing first then removed it to install the seal and swiper. I wonder how many other XT owners are running into this problem of the taller seal, since the part number is the same for 1991 to 2002 XT600s.
