No spark

So last week I shorted out the black lead to the negative side of the battery and after replacing it I did a quick check of the plug after it would not start,could I have fried the cdi unit thus giving no spark?........

ha ha just started the diagnostics and found a lead off the coil,cranked the motor after rebuiding the engine completely and it started 3rd cranknow all I have to do is drain the oil again and find out why the clutch will not work,wont disengage?......tried adjusting all the way out on the handlebar but made no difference so have to go inside.....

So I,ve stripped the clutch and I can see it working but still won,t work....now I remember when I stripped it the clutch assy was always spinning and I had nothing to stop it spinning and that is when I broke the clutch housing.Now when I re assembled the engine I could tighten the clutch nut without it spinning so now I think I might have rebuilt it and done something wrong on the rebuild,enough for it to be constantly engaged untill it is in neutral......any idea,s before I strip it down again?

Hi Kenny.
The only thing I can suggest is to look at the diagrams in the service manual and make sure you have all the parts shown and they are in the right order. Section 4/10 is the one you want. If you can tick both of those boxes then it must be something worn or assembled incorrectly.

Cheers geoff, I,m going to pull the clutch assy off and check to see if I have re assembled the primary drive wrong......let you know if I find anything...

Found the serated washer behind the clutch assy has slipped off and caught between the housing,replaced to correct position and clutch now works ok,sadly the gasket split on the outer casing and one of the oil filter bolts stripped itself so will order a new gasket and sort out a helicoil for the filter bolt.....

Very pleased that you found it eventually Kenny. But it's so bloody annoying when you cure one problem only to create another. Oh well, onwards and upwards!

well the gasket is ordered and I just removed the bolt from the oil filter housing and stuck a wd40 straw down the length of ht ehole and it appears to be longer than the bolt so I m hoping to get a longer bolt by about 5 mm and maybe there is enough thread to grip the bolt as it ithe filter housing is too deep for a helicoil??

Hey Kenny,good to see you're nearly there

The bolt you're talking about,is it the bottom one on the filter cover?
Just went and checked my broken engine parts and they're all threaded in the crankcase....

Just had a closer look and when I remove the clutch housing I ll be able to helicoil it,I just put a longer bolt in and it seems to be holding ok so hopefully tomorrow I ll replace the gasket and be ready for the run in on the weekend as its pouring down here at the moment......
