Got me an ACERBIS tank - TTR600RE

Some of you TTR owners may have seen this tank on eBay recently - it was to be included in the sale of a TTR600RE from a bike shop in Hastings.

I contacted the chap a while back & after doing the deal, got it today





It looks a bit bigger in the "flesh" but beats having to fill up every couple of days

I have also aquired an Ohlins shock which I'll be fitting in the near future

Did you get the shock from a TTR600? If you did, the shock is longer than the stock one on the TT600RE. When you fit it, don’t you have to do something about the forks?

What with the weather, may need the tank - and run it near empty to use it as a "float"

OK - Decided to make the most of the break in the weather and fit the tank

This must be one of the most effective & easy upgrades to make.

Off with the seat (2 x bolts underneath rear mudguard). Seat off!

Undo 1 x bolt at base of tank (under seat), disconnect fuel hose! Tank off!

The Acerbis tank slid home (once I bent the horn forward an inch) and secures with 1 x bolt (like the std tank).

Only major difference is that there is no seat location on this tank, but as the front of the seat has a tang that locates in the spine of the frame to stop it moving about, this is not an issue.

Coz it fitted so well & quick, I forgot to take "fitting" shots, but they aren't really going to be much help.









Tell a lie - i did have to tweak the "lock-stops" a couple of turns to save the forks hitting the tank, but it is not noticable on the steering.

Managed to get the nearly full standard tanks worth of petrol in it, plus a gallon can and its still only half full I'll save £5 month from not having to detour to the fuel station. The new tank is supposedly 20 ltrs, which is double the std one.

Only minor gripe is the FUEL TAP! The tap doesn't shut off 100% when turned to "OFF". It doesn't leak anywhere tho, but its also a r/h fitment, and should be a l/h one, so the fuel line comes out heading to the front of the bike, away from the carb fitting. I have ordered a new l/h heavy duty all-alloy one from David Lambeth, Rally & Overland Uprated HD Alloy Lever Tap for Acerbis Fuel Petrol Tank on eBay (end time 12-Dec-09 08:11:59 GMT)

So all in all I thought I'd save 35% on buying a new one, but with the tap, it'll only be 30% or 3 x tanks of fuel.
