Do you know if it is possible to rebuild the original rear Shock absorber on a 1988 XT600 (model 2KF)?

Is possible to replace the nitrogen inside , making a hole and the soldering a valve - I've made it , but very soon returns to original condition. Better to replace with an aftermarket shock, from my experience Yamahas are not conceived to be re-buildable and poor too (particularly on hydraulics when comping with big loads).

I had mine rebuilt about 200km back, in the manner which Georgio just described.
If you like, get hold of me in a couple of months and I'll let you know whether it lasts or not.

I had my standard damper rebuilt here by a motorcross suspension specialist years ago, and it only gave up last year in Morocco after a day of bumping over the stones due to a leaking rod seal. Now I have a high temperature resistant seal so I'll try the desert again next year. Fyi the damping characteristics and spring preload were adjusted to my wishes. Total costs € 90,--
