xt600 1985 valve clearances
hello
I am new to this forum and have a 1985 xt600 34l which is an import, I bought it 12 months ago as a none runner and I'm now ready to start rebuilding it, I've had it running once and it sounded very tappety so I'm going to reset the valve clearances, in my clymer manual the clearence spec seems very big off the top of my head inlet 47-67 thou and the exhaust I can't remember, can someone tell me the correct clearances? and whats the best way to kickstart the bike ta

your bike should have a automatic decompressure device , just bring the piston to tdc and kick away , the bike is geared so as to get I beleave two revolutions out of one kick, I will look up in my yamaha book what the valve clearance should be Ill get back to you

Have now managed to confirm clearances, cold engine- inlet .07-.12mm [ .0028-.0047 in. ] exhaust .12-.17mm [ .0047-.0067 in. ] which is the same as my clymer manual
