XT550 + 660Raptor carb?

I have read a few posts on here after searching around that mension this would work. Would it realy work to put a 660raptor carb on a 83' XT550? And would it give you any serious power gains/ Better response?

Thanks!

Just re-jetting your standard carb and a decent pipe would do wonders for a XT550.

Raptors aren't all they are made out to be - it's all hype!!!

Sounds like a good cheap alternative... My XT 550 isnt realy an XT550... My thing is the Honda odysseys. (off road gokart dune buggy type deals) I took the stock 250cc motor out and droped in the 550. Im looking for more power and cleaner response. Even though i can already do wheelies at will :devil2:

Raptor carbs

Every one has an opinion so I will share mine. I had many problems with my original carb on my XT 600 so bought a raptor carb set off ebay. Took a bit of work not to much mind you but I now love my XT once again. Would never put on the original carb set. In fact threw them in the trash. :funmeteryes:

Is it better now, does it have more power due to the "extra fuel"??:cool4:

Raptor carb

Yes it's better now! Starts better, responds better, runs much smoother. Like I said though I had to do a bit of work, including setting the carbs up for a smaller motor. So it's not really getting "more fuel". Just better fuel.
If your not one for spinning a wrench I'd say leave this one alone. However if you have some skill than this is a great swap. After running one one my bike I would never go back to the crazy set up that was there.
Good luck to all.

I put them on my bike last year. I had been wanting to do it ever since the raptor came out in 01. That motor basically came from the xt600. I had to change my throttle over to a motion pro twist throttle for a raptor and the carbs fit better with the manifolds off of a 1990/newer xt600. I also got rid of the airbox as the boots to the carbs didn't fit with either my 87 xt600 boots or the raptor boots. This involved ordering custom k&n angled air filters, raptor carb-airbox boots, 2.5" pvc to adapt the filters to the boots. It's a very tight fit, but it works really well. I had to change the stock raptor jetting about 5 or 6 sizes up though (my motor is heavily modified) in order to get it right.

My next project is putting the raptor 660 motor in my bike. I got a motor from a buddy who's raptor caught on fire. I'm going to have to have custom radiators made to fit it though. The new xt in Europe is a 660 now. I wish we had them here in the states:( The europeans get all the cool stuff! Check out the xt660x supermoto that the europeans get. Lucky!

will do. My only concern is how the gearing will work. I might have to play around with it a bit.

Tell us more about your bike, such as installing the rear disc break and the UD forks.

I like what you've done to it.

What else did you do?

Keith: Which jetting did you end up with? I know yours is a 550 but it's much modded then mine....so it shouldn't be too way off...

I've been lurking ebay for a dynojet carb kit for my raptor 660 carb but the one I found, the seller told me it's a stage 2 kit....

Here is the description from Dynojet + link: http://www.dynojet.com/pdf/Q414.pdf
