Xt225 Serrow Carb Prob

I have a strange problem that effects the serrow when it warms up. it runs fine cold then starts to get all fluffy and lacks power when warmer. it also backfires and coughs. i have replace the ignition coil, plug, cleaned carb to no avail about 3 times now. i have checked the resisitance of the ignition coil (the crankcase generator one) wich was very low. poss problem but what i am thinking is it may be the carb delivering too much fuel. I have lowered the fuel level in the float bowl and it improved slightly. the carb however will leak very easily through the float breather when the bike is moved. maybee the card float valve that lets fuel in is worn. it looks fine. or maybee the level is still too high. the manual i have does not go back to the 1984 model. does anyone know a good place in the uk to source serrow spares (pref second hand) i am willing to try another carb on it before trying to find another crankcase ignition coil. its a 1984 bike which may cause probs. any info welcome cos i have tried fettling this thing for so long now and have got nowhere. also are there any good serrow forums out there that may be able to help? it was a bargain purchase that turned out a little more involving than i had anticipated. you live and learn!
thanks
Oz

Serow carb problem

Hi OZ
Have you checked that the choke is not 'sticking on' I had the same symtoms on a Harley some years ago, and the bike would only run ok when the engine was cold enough to demand choke once again, then as the engine got hotter it ran like the proverbial bag of sh**e, but some said that is how Harleys run! Hope you sort it.

Rough running

I work on a fair number of the older 225's and here in the USA they had the XT200. One other problem is the CDI or the "black box". Sometimes it will run fairly good and them it will start missing and running badly. See if you can borrow a timing light that you clip onto the spark plug wire and check for intermitten spark when it is runnig bad. There is no real check for the box just replace it.
