XT gearbox problems??

Anyone had experience of XT`s jumping from 5th to 4th gear? My bike doesn`t do it all the time - anyone have any ideas on why it is happening and any possible cures?

Sounds like dogs on the gears are worn or possibly the selector fork is bent ...

Whats the mileage.

Before you start ripping the engine apart, take the side cover off and check the selector spring mechanism isnt damaged. If it looks ok them im afriad you will be probably have to split the crankcases and change the gears :(

It`s a 92 model but it`s only got 12`000km on the clock - and that looks like the genuine milage, it had been stored for years until I got hold of it.

That sounds like a major drama spliting the gearbox, I hope that it doesn`t come to that:(

As I said, it doesn`t happen all the time, but it is a bit worrying....
