xt battery

Hi
The battery on my Tenere has finaly quit after 8 years, i need to replace it, only problem is iám in Chile and the only battery i can find is a 12v-10amp one, the one for the Tenere going by the Yamaha xt600 manual is a 12v-4amp one.Could i get away with using the 12v-10amp battery,or will this do damage to the cdi and reg/rec and other electrical parts...any help please.

The battery should be O.K., the amps is actually Ah or ampere hours. A 10 Ah battery can supply 1 amp for ten hours, 0.5 amp for 20 hours and so on....Assuming it is fully charged.
I can't see why it would be a problem as long as it fits, the small gel battery on my TT600RE has an 8 Ah rating and runs from a 170 watt (max) alternator.

No problem whatsoever; you'll just have more juice in the battery. It's just the capacity that is larger, not the Volts.
Does it fit in the battery bracket?

Provided you also have a kickstarter you could also use a battery with a lower capacity, the reason the batt on the 3AJ model is larger than on the older models is because it has elelectric start.
