RH indicators

Hi, my left hand indicators are working perfectly, the right hand ones - nothing! Has anyone experienced this? is it likely to be the relay (which clicks away fine when the switch is to the left, but does nothing when it's to the right)? Any thoughts appreciated! Oh, mine's a 1988 bike. Cheers.

Have you checked bulbs, connects, switch?

Is there a seperate fuse for the other side?
check the switch is ok ?
would certainly say its not the relay......I stand to be corrected !

I JUST went through this. take ALL your signals apart, use a little sandpaper to clean them up a bit, maybe a dremel with a wire brush attachment, and clean up the contacts that the bulbs touch.

my rear right wasnt working, until I took it apart and did this to clean it up. then applying 12V to the connectors, I was BLINDED by the bulb.

Sometimes the flasher relay goes bad and only blinks to one side and the other side would only stay on and not blink.
I had that.. new relay and everything solved...

Nope, no blinking at all! Have followed the wires and all seems OK and connected. Have looked at the bulbs and they look OK. Will try the cleaning up the connections, and see if I'm blinded! Thanks all.chug

when I say the connections, I mean both bullet connectors, AND the signal housing where the bulb itself contacts the metal socket. believe me, if the socket is dirty or not making a solid contact, it DOES make a difference.

Hi Adam.
The problem almost certainly lies in the selector switch on the handlebars. If the left side works OK then the relay is probably OK. To explain, the power goes from battery to ignition switch to fuse to relay to selector switch on the handlebar. From there it goes to the set of bulbs (left or right) that you have selected. Therefore if the left side works all of that must be OK. Take the switch apart and clean the connectors that the selector slides across. Take note of the wire colours and double check them down at the connector in the loom. If you've got a bulb test light you might want to do some simple checks with it.
If you download the Yamahe service manual that's at the top of this tech list then the wiring diagram might help you. I know it's for a later model than yours but it won't be all that different.
