XT 600 Rough Runner

Hello everyone: I have a 1984 XT600, the bike is in great shape and after first starting it idles nicely but blows a litte smoke. If i give the bike gas half throttle it blows more smoke and sounds like it is missing. The bike will run for about 5 minutes and then it just wants to stop running idle goes to crap and the more throttle I give it the more smoke it will blow and the more it sounds like it is missing. When it finally decides to stop running it won't restart untill it is cool and then it will start on only a few kicks. In the manual it says check electrical connections and the resistance on the primary and secondary coils in the stator mine read around primary 256ohms and secondary 150ohms. I also checked the coil for the spark plug and that seems fine. I haven't went over all of the electrical connections/wiring yet, but I have had the carb off and cleaned the fuel system out totaly. All of this occurs with out the air filter installed. I'm unsure if it could be the CDI or with the ohm readings high on the stator if I will have to replace it. Any Ideas. Please Let me Know.

Smokey

Hi, Is the smoke black or white(blue)?
Maybe your choke is stuck on if black, running to rich.

HEy Zimbo: Thanks for the advice but the choke seems to be operating properly, everything on the carb seems to be correct, I checked the needles and the jets and they are to ones that are required in the service manual. I however did make an error on the resistance of the coils. The resistance is on the ignition system coils source and the other one. With the resistance being high would that effect the timing on the spark plug? Also after it stops running and I look at the plug it looks to have alot of cardon not oil on it which leads me to believe its running rich and its not the oil seeping past the rings. When do you know when you would need to replace the stator or the CDI? I feel it must be an electrical problem on the timing system. Any advice would be great.
