xt 600 key switch

I Have To Remove Key Switch From 03 Xt600.bike Is Trying To Start Even When Key Is Off,so I Think I Have A Problem In The Switch.have Located Fixings But Can`t Se How To Remove, they Don`t Seem To Have External Socket Type Fitting Or Internal Hex Key Or Special Fitting.so Either I`m Missing Something Or There Is Another Method

If you mean that is possible to start the bike also with key in off position, maybe there is someting wrong with cables, not with switch.

Key switch is locked to upper crown with special screws that are broken after assembling, against thieves. To remove it, you have to remove handlebar, upper crown, and then find a way to unscrew (maybe weld a nut on top of them)

You can't do a lot to switch also if you remove it... maybe better simply remove the connector, and

1) Temporarily replace with a spare one if you already have it
or
2) get an electric diagram and try with the two settings\connections ON OFF

had similiar problem on 2002 xt600e turns out it was the starter relay its on the left side completely killed my battery it a common problem on the xt ,well it the only thing had has ever gone wrong mario:eek3:

I agree it's more than likely your starter relay. Take it off, clean up the wires and give it a few light smacks with the handle of a screwdriver. Re-fit it and it may save you buying a new one.

finally had a chance to spend a bit of time checking things and it is the starter relay. thanks for everyones input.

Magic matey, I'm glad it's a goer.

Yup, relay it is... That had happened to me twice and the first time I even threw the keys away LOL

at first the solution was to giggle with the +V battery cable that connects to the relay... second was to clean the relay... third, new relay lol...

Any way, I'm searching for a key combo for my 90' XT600E... key switch, fuel cap WITH the same key! and possibly the helmet lock which disappeared from my bike :S anyone got any??

Vando :P
