Double check your connections, they aren't the best.

How did your plug look? Try a new one for the sake of it they are cheap anyway.

Is your bike an import? If it is look for butchered connections and taped joints in the loom, if you find any you might be worth looking for a new loom.

Keep us posted on how you get on.

Well, I think you've just fragged your camshaft chain! :(

.

Seconded

My starter relay problems were down to a bad connector and coincidently and fortunately whilst the Auto electrician was here the ignition circuit decided to play up and both of them were down to bad connectors.

Mines a TTR with even crappier electrics.

fault finding guide

try to use this

Technical Article: Motorcycle Electrical Fault Finding Guide - ElectroSport Industries

the correct impedance values for your coil are in service manual, downloadable from link top of XT page here. get a tester and test the values, if you r out of range, it's the coil.

anyway,make this test:

if you take your rear light lamp, and connect to coil wires, if ignition unit is ok the lamp should flash when you press start button.

This wouldn't stop it sparking - but it wouldn't start though!!!

bacardi23 29 Apr 2010 12:07

When mine broke it still sparked but it just wouldn't turn the bike on that's why I mentioned it....

and it's really simple to check if it is broken or not...
On the left side of the engine cylinder is the camshaft chain tensioner.
Take it out and put a finger in there and do like you know how and see if it is there.....

thanks for all the replies chaps :thumbup1: managed to get a look at the bike tonight , bit shocked when some one suggested a snapped cam chain , my motor is very quite (even quiter now)and i think i would have heard something as the chain turned everything into mince meat , anyway i had a look through the rear rocker cover and chain is intact :Di checked all connections and every thing looks ok , also no obvious broken wires , i hope to have a new coil tomorrow ,so will try that ,will let you know what happens
