X600e 18 inch rear wheel advantages?

I have heard alot about an xt600e having an 18inch rear wheel being an advantage in the overlanding game...

Can anyone tell me what these advantages are?

Thanks ROB

I wouldnt bother at all, lot of 17"'s around out there.

If you really in a pinch, just about every sport/street bike use something like 120/70x17 for a front tire and you could use that.

I've traveled in just under 20 countries in Europe, and only once did I need a tire (actually here in Denmark), when i had supermoto setup with a nail so big, that the tube kept getting flat.

Modern dualsport tires like Heidenau K60 ect will give you a lof of miles for a bike like the Xt.

My Heidenau K60 is the best tire I've used.

Im currently using 'mefo explorers' which are supposed to give the same life span...

Do you guys bother with heavy duty spokes?

The reason I ask is because I have another xt (3tb?) with an 18 inch rear with heavy duty spokes, i could just swap it over. But I like the look of the wheels I already have on the 4tb as they are cleaner and have 130,000 miles less use on them haha!
