hello every one has any one ever put a 2000 engine into a 1984 [34] mine is only kick start so is there any big head aches doing this,apart from the starter motor and switch gear......your thoughts would be welcome......dave:eek3::eek3::eek3:

If it brakes before it bends you better not put it in the frame

That aside most people that put new engine in older bikes seem to need redo the looms on the bike. Sometimes there will electric wiring problims or changes. But if there room in the frame the engine will "fit". Mounting the thing in there may by a pain. bolts may not line up frame may be bent and the vibes will be hell.

Get a picky border guard and the the numbers do not mach you will not have a good day.

May be better to ask at a dedicated web page on your bike.

sorry every one ....right i have a 1984 600 tenere every thing on the bike except engine is standered....the engine is the one with the knackered gear box of which i posted a earlier thread ....on much investigation ...i.e. cost ,labour,parts every one seems to say you may be be better off trying to get a nother engine.....got a 2000 complete engine [for a couple hundred quid]...seeing as mine has alot of none standerd parts from the barrel up i wonderd if i could transfer my top end on to the bottom?...as i have only had old xt,s i dont know if the head cylinder bolts are in the same place....also mine has a oil tank and that model is in the frame ....but i assume the oil pipes still feed the motor top and bottom?as this one has an electric start{yes the starter motor is with it}and i am getting a starter switch....should be able to connect ok...the reason why i want to change top end is that mine has a 98cc conversion,cr carbs 35, titanium valves polished head,laser-produro exaust,and a big k.n. hidden under the seat.....hope this does exsplain a little better.......and yes i know my grammer is crap!....cheers dave

I'm no expert and feel free to correct me

I'm pretty sure your '84 top end will bolt to the 2000 bottom end, things changed on how the heads bolt to barrels but not how barrels bolt to bottom end.

I think the early Kick only bikes are narrower where the frame and swinging arm pivot.

thats because on the electric start engine the front sprocket is further out. so if the 2000 engine bolts into the '84 frame then the front sprocket wont line up with the rear. there are ways around this but it may be easier just to do a full rebuild on your '84 motor?

also the frame rails that go either side of the carbs on an '84 leave less space for carbs than the 2000 frame. not a problem though if you are not using the 2000 carbs.
