wilber springs

Right,got my self a set of wilber progressive springs.....which way in do the go?....answers on a postcard to.....

The end where the spring is tightest goes to the solid end, that beeing the top.

Dont they include a manual theese days?

well the instructions were in the box and the air gap is written on the end of the box! I,ve drained and cleaned the forks and the springs are alot longer than the originals so I have to remove the spacer so I will fill with oil tomorrow and hopefully have them rebuilt during my tea break.....

WellI started to do the oil level according the instructions and filled it to 300mm and pumped the 20 times but when I read the air gap on the end of the box I could not quite figure out what they meant.It looks like a 108 so I don,t know if they mean 108 mm 10.8 inches from the top so maybe some one here will know and if not I will shoot them off an e mail and ask for clarity......

14cm from tthe top, with the compressed fork without springs in is really good. That should be a good 500ml in each.

Sadly not,we are near the end of a check with one of out aircraft so its a bit busy hopefully tomorrow night I will finish the last fork.I ran out of oil and then remembered I had some left over from my blackbird when I uprated the them so I took it to work tonight but had no time. They are quite simple forks really but I would like any idea,s on improving the rear shock too but I think that might be a bit costly as usually you have to go the ohlins ot WP path eh?
Maybe some one has a few ideas.....

Maybe theres a spring for the rear shock too out there, but I dont know enough about shocks to say thats a possible thing to do on a rear shock..maybe the rears are an entirely different thing..

Ive been thinking about changing springs too on my xt since i go alot on mountain roads with alot of bumps in them and sometimes it feels like theres no shock there at all

oops, i just assumed it was an xt600 ur doing this on..but you didnt mention anywhere and i see in your profile you have many bikes.

Yep its an xt600 2002,along with my blackbird and africa twin.....going to take the front wheel off the blackbird and do the front wheel bearings,hopefully tonight if its quiet.....

Well did the blackbird bearings before I went to work,good job too as we were toobusy.Just finished putting the forks ontot he xt with the uprated springs and one tooth lower on the front sprocket.Going to take the missus and the dog out for a walk,going to see if I can get the missus to chase the ball.....

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
