Why so few XT660R's on here?

Why do XT660 r seem so unpopular mfor overland.

They are well priced, use a good engine, seem reliable enough and with a strong bashguard would seem the perfect bike?

Am i wrong?

Probably because half the world can't get them. They are not allocated to Australia or New Zealand Though we do get the X model. And yamaha in the US doesn't know what adventure riding is. Are they popular in Europe? In NZ they are not that much cheaper than an F650GS.

I guess the main reason is there are so many XT600s still going strong! And the 660 is too new to reveal any long term flaws. I've had both and the 660 is defiantly the better road bike, perfect for the single track B roads round here. It would also make a decent big trip bike with that bash plate, extra fuel capacity and protection for the exhausts which are very vulnerable. The fuelling glitch has been sorted by fitting a revised throttle sensor under a safety recall. I bought mine new for £3500 - the difference between that and a GS 650 would pay for a very nice (mostly road) trip!

Hi,

I think the XT660R and the BMW GS was build to park and look good in front of an ICECAFE.

But for Adventure Biking I will stick to my XT600K 3TB 1993 or would take my MZ 660 Baghira 2002 I think this is the real stuff. But choice No. 1 would still be the XT because its more comfortable on the long run.

I have been to Lesotho with friends there were also a Dakar and a XT660R with, they could not catch up with the speed of the old XT600 :-)

And they were scared to drop the bike because there is to much plastic shit on which cost a furtune to replace. If I drop my XT not much happens. If you drop a Dakar its getting pretty expensive.

NO THANKS TO DISCO BIKES OR STAY ON THE ROAD WITH THEM

regards

Thomas

You can´t yet get a cheap used XT660 so I think people choose the XT600 instead. I tried the XT660 and it's pretty slick but it doesn't have much of an adventure feeling to it - not like my old XT600 Tenere ;-)
