Which Tenere?
I don't have a lot of money but want to buy a 600cc bike with a large tank. At the lower end of the market, I can only see a Yamaha Tenere or a Suzuki DR600 as being suitable for my budget.
I notice on the page http://www.tenere.ch/english/etenerestory.html#Top it says that the 86/87 model is prone to overheating. How bad is this overheating? Will the engine cut out when too hot or will it do more damage? Also, is the Suzuki DR600 as comfortable and as trustworthy as the Tenere? |

overheating has caused many, many severe engine damages on 86/87 teneres (1VJ).
but with some simple modifications, mainly on the airbox, she can be as relaible as any tenere. i don't know the suzuki dr600, but i have heard many bad storys. since the market and avaibility of spare parts is better for the tenere, i would recommend her (what else shall i say... ;-) ). if you have further questions concerning 1VJ modifications, you may contact me via www.xt600.de or look here, there's a lot about it in other threads. regards klaus |
