which spark plug?

I went to buy a spare plug for my 1VJ today, and the microfiche listed a DPR7EA-9. When I had a 55W, I always ran it on a DPR8EA-9, which to my understanding is cooler running. Why does the 1VJ need a plug to make it run hotter. Surely a bike which was known for overheating problems could do with running cooler. Or am I missing the point? Which plug do you guys use or reccommend?
Cheers Dave

Thanks Geoff
That was helpful. Have you or anyone else tried the iridium plugs, and noticed a difference, or are they a waste of money for these bikes?

Hi,

I have used them, but not with the XT.

My gut feel is that they keep a consistant performance over a long time and really benefit a tuned bike (high compression pistons; high lift cams; etc...). Their cost makes them perhaps an expensive luxury and unneeded for the XTs level of tune - I'm sure somebody will have a different view though.

I think I will stay with the standard plugs.

Ciao,
Geoff
