What engine do I have?
 

My XT is 1987, forks are ca 1995, and i thought my engine was 3AJ. Now I dont know anymore.
The top says ;2KF
The sylinder says ;3AJ
Now I saw, behind the sprocket; 1VJ04:helpsmilie:

It has el-start, no kick.

What`s right???

Well Im getting no wiser.. Had a look at the top of the clutch-cover. For some reason, the original nr have been grinded down, and a 2KF-nr have been stamped on. Very homemade. Dont know why.
Its not easy getting the right parts when I dont know what engine it is.
That 1VJ04 behind the sprocket is not enough?
The driveshaft /sprocket has "fine teeth"?, and I havent found that on any micro-fiche yet. Tell you something?
I need that drawing, because it has been put together wrong.
There is a spacer(ca 6 mm) inside the sprocket that I think should lye inside/in the oilseal. It was lying on the outside of the seal, in a groove in the axle, making the sprocket come too far out.
I put the spacer in the oilseal, but then the sprocket seemed to come too far in.. Is something missing?
Havent seen that spacer in any drawing.
Any input at all will help me.

If it has fine teeth on the drive shaft I think it will be a 3AJ 88/89
I think the front sprocket on the 3AJ has a shoulder on one side so if you have a flat sprocket some one may have tried to space it out.
The xt600 used different size sprockets
1986/87 15/40 104
1988 15/40 104
1989 15/45 106 This model uses the sprocket with fine splines
I have several XT600 micro fiches on cd but no 3AJ, my local bike shop had a micro fishe for the 3AJ but have since changed over to a computer system and dont have 3AJ on the system.
You could try looking in the Kedo catalouge for info on sprockets
Kedo should be able to tell you what engine you have and are very good for spare parts.

Er um, what kind of engine is it? A stolen one, there is never, never a reason to change a engine Number

That does make it difficult ..
 

The original Yamaha 3AJ sprockets come with a loose spacer that should be between casing and sprocket - this spacer does not show on fiches! Aftermarket sprockets come with a 'integrated' spacer.
So, the thing goes outside the oilseal!

What makes you think the sprocket is too far out?

Is the engine maybe not suited to the frame?

Think its stolen? Is it a unike nr for each engine? Thought the only unike ID was on the frame, so it doesnt make sense.. Maby to fool a buyer?
Im trying to find out who was the second-last owner, hes the one that made the mix, but its not easy. Last owner dont have the papers with his name anymore.

Back to bike;
There is a shoulder on the inside of the sprocket.
The 6 mm spacer fits inside oilseal when centered. It was stuck in a groove, off-center, wearing on the clamp holding the oilseal in place, and making the sprocket come out too much.

Maby its that spacer following the sprocket that I miss. There is ca 3 mm from there the teeth starts to the sprocket, and between the teeth and the threads there is a gap/groove. Now the nut go in past the treads, just spinning in that groove.. So I guess something is missing..

But It might be an 89 3aj.. I can try that.

New info; just got a mail from the seller; He didnt see the 6mm spacer being in the wrong place, so he did grind some off the shoulder of the sprocket to make it fit.(far enough in)... Now I need a new one.... Almost regret buying this thing...
