Wet weather running - xt600e '02
My xt doesn't like the wet... just had a mild jetwash (the bike, not me
).Bike wants to cut out at small throttle openings and currently doesn't start even after a bit of wd40 around the coil/sidestand-cutout-switch etc.I've already protected the ht lead with a bit of innertube and tiewraps. Likely suspects?

The coil is in line with front wheel spray. If you try to run the bike in the dark, you'll see the sparks as it's shorting out.
Take the tank off, remove, clean and dry the coil, get all the WD40 off, then coat the entry and exit points (electrical connectors in, HT lead out) with clear silicon sealant. Allow it to dry and it should be fine. Check the plug is a cosy fit, and reasonably well sealed in the HT lead while you're there. I've also added a fender extender. It's only 6"" longer, (genuine Yamaha part), but I've had no problems now in 3 months, despite a weekly mud plug! |
