Well Known Weak Points on XTZ660

Hello guys,
I am getting ready for an overland trip to Thailand, eventually Australia, going through Turkey Iran Pakistan India etc.

I have a XTZ660 ’95 (26,000 on the clock) and I wanted to check with you first if there are any well known weak points on this bike, I went through the posts here on the HUBB and I heard something about the fuel pump and an electric component (I think it was the rectifier???) but apart from these is there anything you would change before leaving or a spare you’d take with you or leave to a friend here apart from the usual bits (plugs, filters, cables etc.?)

By the way I will not go offroad, will try to keep on paved roads so I presume the suspensions will be OK?

Many thanks for any advice.
Regards to all.

2 things

That I know of:
1. The rectifier / regulator. Should be replaced with one with cooling fins. Partnumber somewhere on this site
2. The nut on the crankshaft might become loose (engine R/H side). Check torque

Suspension OK? - Just to make sure, recommend to refurbish at least. You'll not be the first to be stuck with a leaking shock.

Thank you for prompt reply,
the rectifier (it's the one in the fairing? next to the headlamp) has cooling finns so it should be the right one.

You mean the big nut, on the same side of the drive chain?

Right

The nut I'm talking about is located on the right side of the crankshaft, you need to remove the RH engine cover to reach it. Drive chain is on the left.

Rectifier: probably yes, but check partnumber to be sure.

of course, sorry...

I see, sorry, this one:

but it has a blocker washer, does it matter? :confused1:

Washer

Although it has the washer, two of my friends had a loose nut. Pretty easy to check the torque. Better to do it now then in a dusty shed in Iran.
