Waterproofing Ténéré
I've got a Ténéré (3AJ model)and want to know what needs to be done to prevent damage when riding through puddles and river crossing. I know some Yams are prone to sucking water into the crankcases via breather tubes. Does anything need to be done to the electrics or carbs? |

I've done plenty of river crossings on my
XT with no modifications and no trouble. Rode it with water almost up to the seat in the recent floods. Have Fun Bill. |

My XT has drowned just the once, in seat level water. It wasn't a case of sucking water up breather hoses, but that the electrical connection to the spark plug was bypassed. The recomendation from the http://www.rides.org.uk members was to buy an NGK jetski plug cap, which seems to do the job. Hope this helps.

Seat level water? I'd worry about it coming in the air intake at that level, never mind breather tubes. And to think I was worried about water which is only 18" deep! Thanks for the spark plug cap recommendation BTW. |

deep water
I agree with the other fellas, I ride my XT through deep water up to the seat on the regular. With no mods at all. No harm after many many years!

I have had some troubles doing river crossing in Iceland with a 2KF model.
After treating the ignition cable and spark plug rubber with WD40 no more problems. Guy |
