Vibrating Exhaust

I just changed the exhaust for a Motad Downpipe+Arrow silencer,(xt 600 98) looks like there is a play at the Cylinder, I fitted some exhaust kind of repair paste in between and other aluminiums bits but it does not seems to last long, of course I changed the seal.

So I'm suprised the motad downpipe does not fit actually very well, but does anyone has done a good job fixing the vibration form cylinder/exhaust I would be interested to hear from you

what you are missing are some exhaust gaskets!
they are made of some kind of aluminum and fit between the header pipes and the cylinder holes.

Hey no, I put new gaskets
today I tried to tighten the bolt, and the pin broke into the cyliner it was just so rusty, I expect the other to break too, looks like Iwill have to open the engine to remove the cylinder the problem now is too remove all the 4 rusty bits from the cylinder !!

Take your bike to a machine shop! I bet they can heat it up just a bit and take them all off or osmething like that...
Replace the studs for some Yamaha studs... you can also get new nuts.. one pack comes with 5 bolts... at least new nuts came 5...

Had this same issue with my XT550....
A propane torch & a good pair of vise-grips did the trick for extracting 'em.
Replaced all 4 with S/S studs during re-assembly....

Yes heating up sounds like a good idea, shall I drill the broken stud that broke and is now stuck in the cylinder to remove it?

Use a decent pillar drill, make sure its all square and drill it out starting with a 3mm bit.
Then a 4mm & then a 5mm. You should be able to carefully pick the bits of swarf out, then run a 6mm tap down it (assuming its a 6mm thread, not 8mm?). Take your time!

Depending on how much is still in the cylinder head, why not weld a nut to the bit, heat the cylinder a bit and unscrew the studs... be careful as they might have reversed thread!

check you workshop manual

just be sure to which side the studs come off from the cylinder and most likely you'll get them out..

The studs are normal righthand threads..... Welding creates lots of lovely heat - just where you want it & just wot you want to help shift the b*gg*r!
