Upgrading Ténéré
 

Hi guys,

Sorry for all the questions, can anyone tell me where I can buy a center stand for a 3AJ ? I also plan on fitting a cigarette lighter to power various electrical items, I understand the Ténéré's electrics are a week point, how much current can I reliably take ? lastly I'm looking for a mechanic oil gauge, any recommendations.......

Hi Matt,

Some information for you, based upon my experience:

I think the only centre stand manufactured for our 3AJ now is - (Five Stars in Germany) http://www.jfmotorsport.de/navigator...hp3?modell=203 . The final product is different and more sturdier than shown (it has a bar across underneath between the foot-peg mounts. JFMotorsport would not mail outside Germany, so Riderhaus acted as the retailer for me ( http://www.riderhaus.com/ ).

I have no experience of fitting an electrical outlet, but know your Belgium OptiMate company does a universal one ( http://www.accumate.co.uk/it020002.html ).

RR in Germany produce an oil temperature gauge for our 3AJ, however it replaces the filler cap in the oil tank and so is not easily read at a glance with the side panel fitted (ha, ha). I am not sure if you can buy direct from RR - I got mine through the German retailer "Louise" (very helpful), but I think you will also find the gauge in Kedo's catelogue ( www.kedo.de ). You need to be a bit careful as the 3AJ has a different screw top to the other Ténérés (a cap, rather than a bung type on the other models - if that makes sense?)

I´ve been seeking a five stars myself, but impossible to find one in France.
Can you keep the sidestand?

The tenere electrics are not the best and far not the worst.
You have the possibility to uppgrade to a high output system, much recomended, but not necessary.
With original configuration and cruise beam(55+40W) switched on, I mesure almost 14V
between + and -.
My battery died because it was old when I tried H4 55Wx2, no big problem otherwise, but I recomend uppgrading to 55w40w quality halogens instead of more consuming ones, thats what I finally did and now I see the road and charge lap same time, no problem at all.

The tenere has one heavy rotor on crank, it produces heat, electricity and torque.
Even if not the best, it must be better than those on ttr´s etc.

Bad contacts is the n´1 electric problem maker, be on the preventive side, spray wd40 on all except regulator and know all are tight correctly.

Mesure coil resistances.

Track energy leaks..+ to frame =worn cables.

I got cig socket from touratech, excellent, mounted on bars in little laser cut alu box.
Or you can take the onboard bmw socket from touratech, its smaller and youll need an adapter to conect car type chargers.

Hein Gericke sells oil gauges as well, I agree, it will be hard to check temperature taking seat etc off.

Hi Matt, The sidestand is not affected.
The centre stand is attached to the foot-peg mounting bolts.

Great thanks guys, I'll track down the AccuMate this weekend. I hope to fit it just under the choke, but first need to check on space. I'll be calling 5 stars early next week, if I have success MATT595 would you like me to get one for you too ?? I'll also look into upgrading the bulbs.

As for the oil gauge I would want a decent "quick view" gauge eg mounted on the handle bars, nothing hidden and screw in ;-*....

Geoff, I'm a Sussex boy originally and Goodwood was my local circuit. Plenty of great hours spent there before it became a victim of its own success. I´d like that 5*, can you check availability and confirm me with an e-mail, it would be great and thanks for having the idea.
I´m about to move from France and will have to provide a new adress for delivery, thats the problematic side for me at this moment.

For the temp meter, I have the kedo electric one, it costs 50€ and is bar mounted.
I took power from cruise lights, this way it switch off when using full beam.
Be carefull screwing the sensor parts, the small screws brake if overtightened, put lochtite on sensor in plug adapter bolt and never loosen it again.
