Which tyre sizes and rims - XT600E Motard

Hello Everybody,

I have an original XT600E '99 and I want to rework it to supermoto. I am planning to move the rear rim (2,50 x 17) to the front and buy a new rear rim of the size 3,50 x 17 or 4,25 x 17. Which rear rim would fit better? Which tyre sizes would fit to these rims? I am thinking about 110x70x17 on the front wheel and 130x80x17 to the rear one. What do you thing, good or wrong idea?

I searched the forum for these topics but I was not successfull to find the details...

I would be glad for your valuable advices!

Thank you in advace

Martin, Czech Republic

Hang on, Your want a rear wheel in your front forks.
Why not just find a 17 inch front?

yes. The original rear rim is 2,5x17 and it is the size which is required on the front wheel, so in order to reduce final cost, I think to fit the rear rim to the front wheel and buy a new rim for the rear wheel of the size 3,5x17 or 4,25x17. My idea is why to buy a front rim of the same size as I already have?

Regards Martin

I've always seen motard as light cycles with a lot of horsepower, an XT lacks both.

Just consider it

Good luck with it, im sure it will be cool anyway

I think your sizing sounds just about right Martin....
I'm running 17" Excels on my '88.....3.5 up front with a Dunlop 120 & 4.25 out back.....with an Avon 150. Both about as wide as you could possibly go, but the ride quality is top notch.

Just replaced the chain & sprockets.....went with a std.-duty 520 RK which helped with tight clearances as the former o-ring chain was just starting to rub against the sidewall edge.....so obviously a chain guard is NOT an option here.

the original steel wheels on the XT600E are garbage, i wouldnt re-use them if i could help it. i got some spare wheels on ebay and kept the best pair for off road, and replaced the other rims with excels.
