Tyre Size Confusion

hi everyone,
I'm just about to order a pair of Avon Distanzias for my 1994 XT600E. I currently have a pair of Bridgestone Trailwings fitted. I am slightly confused as to the rear tyre size, the fitted Trailwing tyre is 4.60x17, will the Avon Distanzia sized 4.60x18s fit the rear rim? Any help would be greatly appreciated since I haven't got a clue about how tyre sizes work.

Cheers,
Paul.

NO.

The 4.6 measurement is the cross-section of the tyre and the 17 (18) is the wheel rim diameter.

Hi Paul,

the 4.60 is the width of the tyre in old imperial size

the 17 or 18 is the diameter

so an 18 inch tyre isn't much good to you if you have a 17 inch wheel

the Distanzia is a good choice, just get the correct size

earlier bikes had 18 inch rear wheels, I think all the XT600E's have 17 inch rears?

cheers
Andy
