My goal with buying the new cable was to lighten the clutch lever pull. The old cable was OK but old, so I thought a new cable would help. I was disappointed, there was no great difference.

Last night I managed to reroute the cable beautifully, as it is longer than the stock TT600RE cable. It required a few zip ties. No sharp bends. Now the cable is NOT coming out of the dashboard. I could move the clutch lever unit maybe 3 cm away from the grip increasing the lever ratio, softening the pull. The smooth bends on the cable also help.

The difference is considerable. I can’t wait to try the bike out.

So maybe the XT600E clutch cable may be the better choice for those that don’t mind a little extra work and a few zip ties…

I rode the TT with the new clutch cable (and relocated clutch lever) today. I know it has been a week but I have been busy messing with my trials bike…

I am very happy with the results, the pull is significantly lighter. The combination of the lighter clutch pull and the lower gear ratio (14t front) has really improved the overall feel of the big TT. Good stuff.

But as previously said, there is a little work involved in fitting the XT’s clutch cable to the TT600RE.

Struggling to find a clutch cable (with sleeves and elbows) for a 2004 Yamaha TTR600RE. Wonder if anyone has any bright ideas ? (I know this chat happened years ago but this seems my best shot at the moment)..

OEM were a pain to locate for my TTR, but i found some on eBay.

Other than that, Slinky Glide produce throttle/clutch cables with outer sleeves. I got one for my TTR and it looks OK.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
