TT600RE Blowing oil.

Hi all
On my way down to Cape Town on my 04 TT600RE, (currently in austria)she drips oil from the air box, the only way this can get there is from the crank case breather, So I proformed a compression test to see it head gasket/piston rings, from the Yam manual, 9Bar is mimium amount of compression, factory is 11Bar and max is 12Bar, I proformed a test a couple months again, and again last week in Switzerland, both times the reading has been 10.56bar, which I think is not bad for a 26k+km engine. (am I wrong) should I be worried? it is abit alarming to always see a drip of oil when i stop (the plus side it my chain is always lovely and oiled!) I only add a little oil every700km or so to keep her topped up. I have increased the oil to 15/50W.

Abit of background to the bike, when I brought her the had too much oil in her and had been run for about 4000km with that amount in her (I don't know about before) I have had two opions on this, one it doest matter as excess is just blown out of the breater, and second u must never have too much oil as it can blow gaskets...not so sure about that one as the pump can only pump a max volume at any one time, reagrdless how much there is to be pumped out of the sump, and it is impossable to really get any pressure in the crank case because it is open to the atmosphere via the crank case brather,

Some ideas please, do any other TTRE owners have this, Im sure I dont have too much oil in her,

Thanks very much George

Your are not the first

Hello George,

I've never experienced this personally, but the last time it was discussed is here:-

The last post is faily reassuring.

Thanks alot, that was great
I have one question winmac talks of some sort of check valve "there is a only a lip seal on end bearing. its possible this has blown out and oil from the crankshaft is being pushed out the vent". where is this located so I can have a look to see if its missing, poassably replace?
Cheers George

Deep down

at the left end of the balancer shaft there is a seal. This might be worn and let through the oil you find back in the airbox. To get a it, you have to take the whole engine apart and replace the left side balancer shaft bearing.
Another way of excessive blowby is the valve stem seals, no real way of checking them except for replacing.
